Founded in 1982, Vertical Systems began developing software applications about the time personal computers were finding their way onto desktops in workplaces nationwide. In short time, Vertical Systems' applications took aim at the mobile worker. The advent of bar codes opened up opportunities to build software applications for item tracking, inventory control, and labor management.  

Vertical Systems then expanded by pioneering software applications for the mobile worker in the field. Dispatching, route accounting, and services work of all kinds were supported by mobile technology.   As software applications were developed, Vertical Systems evolved and improved the underlying framework that was used in each application.
